WHO IS ATA CAPITAL?

Ata Capital (based in Johannesburg, South Africa) is a cross-sectoral, alternative asset class fund manager, focused on identifying and maximising real investment opportunities that create sustained stakeholder impact, generate effective returns and drive sector transformation. The company, founded in 2012 by CEO, Lelo Rantloane, and the Harris Family Office, is majority black-owned and is managed by a group of seasoned investment professionals.

Ata Capital’s purpose is to attract and manage private and institutional capital, structuring diverse investments that generate superior returns for investors, employees and shareholders; whilst innovating for positive impact and transformation within its investee companies and broader society.

Lelo is the founding CEO of Ata Capital. Prior to this position, he was Head of Debt Capital Markets at Deutsche Bank AG’s Johannesburg Branch. He began his career with Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) as a Transactor in Debt Capital Markets and later became a Transactor in Acquisition and Leveraged Finance where he focused specifically on private equity firms, providing debt and quasi-equity structuring and financing solutions for their acquisitions. While at RMB, he was appointed as Executive Assistant to the CEOs of FirstRand and FirstRand Bank. In addition, Lelo has worked for Morgan Stanley’s Securitised Product Group in London and as a Transactor (on secondment) at the Makalani Management Company, following the departures of the CEO and CIO of the business.

Lelo is also member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP).

In his current role at Ata Capital, Maredi focuses on investor relations; fundraising and business development; compliance liaison; investment support; and monitoring and reporting. Prior to joining Ata Capital, Maredi held the position of Business Development Manager at Liberty Corporate, where he served as a member of the senior management committee. He also spent seven years with the Momentum Group where he served in different capacities, including Head of Asset Consulting at Advice At Work and Head of Investment Distribution. He began his career with a consulting firm, Alexander Forbes before moving on to become Senior Asset Consultant at NBC Holdings.

Mamedupi Matsipa Investment Executive & Board Member

Mamedupi is responsible for deal origination, execution and post-investment management of the portfolio companies in the funds managed by Ata Capital . Prior to joining Ata Capital, Mamedupi held the position of Investment Associate at Goodwell Investments, a Netherlands based impact investment/venture capital company. Before this, she spent eight years at FirstRand Group mostly spent with Rand Merchant Bank, where she gained experience in acquisition and leveraged finance solutions for large corporates and private equity investment companies . While at FirstRand, she also served as Executive Assistant to the Group CEO for two years. Mamedupi began her career with Accenture South Africa, where she fulfilled the role of Management Consultant.

Mamedupi represents Ata Capital on the boards of Medipost Holdings and Spring Lights Gas . She is also Trustee of the Shalamuka Foundation Trust.

Cebile has just over a decade’s accounting experience, currently assuming overall financial responsibility for Ata Capital and its subsidiaries, including investment support and monitoring and reporting. Prior to joining Ata Capital, she was Finance Manager at Instinctif Partners - a global communications consultancy - where she was responsible for the financial management of the South African office and financial reporting to the London office. Cebile also worked for Vantage Capital Group as a Financial Accountant for almost four years, where she gained significant expertise in investment accounting and investor reporting.

Cebile is a member of the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).

Reitumetse is an accountant for Ata Capital and its subsidiaries. Prior to joining the company, Reitumetse was a Financial Accountant at IS-Ignite where she assisted the financial controller with product billing and month-end reporting. Reitumetse started her career at MWEB Business as Finance Graduate trainee in 2014 after completing her BComm. degree at the University of Johannesburg.

Nontokozo has over 10 years’ experience as an executive assistant, fulfilling a number of roles including bookkeeper, assistant accountant and running her own clothing business. Prior to joining Ata Capital, she was an Assistant Accountant at Azon Rail, an engineering manufacturing company. In addition, she worked as an Executive Assistant to the Financial Director, CEO and CFO of Metallon Corporation where she was responsible for overall office management, bookkeeping and HR.

Imogen, an avid promoter of digital awareness, is currently the Executive Director of the Solegna Group, a small company engaged in private equity investments, business consulting and entrepreneurship ventures. She also serves as a non-executive director on the boards of the Ethics Institute, NPC-Cimphor and Imbewu Capital Partners. In 2005, Imogen was appointed as Director of Sasol Limited (until 2012), whilst also representing Accenture’s Digital Advisory Board for five years. Prior to this, she held directorships at both the Mondi Group and MTN and was the former Chairman of Richards Bay Coal Terminal. In 2001, Imogen was recognised by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a “Global Leader of Tomorrow” and was awarded Chartered Director status by the Institute of Directors (IoDSA) in 2013.

Mochel Noge is currently a Regional Director at the FD Centre, which provides part-time finance directors to entrepreneurial businesses, and Managing Director of Gioberti Investments, primarily focusing on project management and business development. In terms of additional directorships, he serves as a non-executive director for the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator (SADPMR), VKB Agri-Processors Ltd. and VKB Landbou Ltd. With over a decade’s experience as a chartered account, Mochele is highly skilled in financial valuation and modelling as well as investment analysis; having worked for some of the country’s largest financial institutions including Citigroup, FirstRand Group, RMB and PWC. He is a member of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners (SAIT), the Institute of Directors of South Africa (IoDSA) and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

Nicola Harris is the founder of the Click Foundation, an NGO that believes that technology can close the significant education deficit in South Africa. Her role at Click Foundation includes leading strategic, fiscal sustainability, data analytics and technology choices. She is also a founder of ArtAngels, a series of auction events in South Africa and London, showcasing top SA artists to art investors. Prior to this, she worked as an investment banker focused on large transactions and corporate finance in both Australia and South Africa. Nicola serves as a board member for multiple companies including Ata Capital, Rain, the African Leadership Academy and the Everard Read Gallery. She is passionate about education and other uplifting initiatives.
